When did the event occur?
The battle for Lone Pine Began on the 6th of August 1915 and ended on the 10th
Why/How was Australia involved?
It was intended to be a diversion from their bigger plan allowing the Anzacs to breakout into the Chunak Bair and Hill 971.
Significance to Australia
· The battle resulted in more than 2,000 Australian casualties due to hand-to-hand combat and trench warfare, and yet it is said that the Turkish suffered double the amount of deaths of their soldiers
· Was quite a unique battle with areas of the trenches sealed off with pine logs, which meant it took time and planning to breach the pine log trenches and bunkers
· Many un-needed Australian deaths at the battle considering it was only meant to be a diversion for a much bigger plan to allow the Anzacs to break into Hill 971 and the Chunak Bair
